Wills, powers of attorney, and living wills allow our neighbors to plan for their futures and leave their homes to their loved ones.
Volunteer with us at our two-part clinic on Oct. 8 and Nov. 14 to help a pro bono client put these documents in place.
Training (Oct. 8): Following a one-hour hybrid training, you will receive your pro bono client’s case file. Volunteers who attend the training in-person may use VIP’s office to call their clients and get a sense of their wishes for their estate plan.
In between the training and the notarization day, you will have time to draft the documents using VIP’s estate planning resources.
Signing Day (Nov. 14): You’ll meet your client at VIP to execute the estate planning documents in front of a notary and witnesses.
Volunteers should plan to commit to both meetings. Attorneys and other legal volunteers are welcome, but non-attorneys must bring a Pennsylvania attorney who will supervise their work.
Registration for the clinic is now closed. Contact Vijaya Singh with questions.
The decisions our clients make when creating these documents – about end-of-life medical care, the disposition of their family home, and who will handle their finances when they cannot – are not always easy ones.
Often, clients and volunteers use the initial meeting to discuss the clients’ wishes and the options available to them. In the weeks between clinic sessions, clients can discuss their choices with family members or call their volunteer attorneys for additional counseling.

Yes. If you are a paralegal, legal assistant, or law student, you can work with a client, as long as you are supervised by an attorney licensed in PA. Your supervisor can be an attorney at your firm, a professor, or a friend. You and your supervisor should commit to both clinic sessions.
Please tell us if you are willing to assist a Spanish-speaking client. You can use your own language skills to handle the case, or we can connect you with a volunteer interpreter. We have Spanish-language estate planning resources available to help guide your conversations.
