City Council issued this Citation on September 17, 2024 recognizing VIP’s pioneering efforts to remedy Philadelphia’s tangled titles by recruiting legal volunteers.
Citation Honoring and Recognizing Philadelphia VIP
The Council of the City of Philadelphia is pleased and proud to honor and recognize Philadelphia VIP for their longstanding work to address the tangled title crisis in Philadelphia.
Whereas, Philadelphia VIP has been at the forefront of addressing Philadelphia’s tangled title problem for the past two decades, connecting low- to moderate-income residents across the city with pro bono lawyers to build and preserve generational wealth; and
Whereas, Philadelphia VIP has cultivated a corps of dedicated legal volunteers, developed a comprehensive knowledge base on resolving tangled titles in Philadelphia, taught advocates across the nation about this critical issue, and established strong relationships with community organizations to continually advance awareness; and
Whereas, Philadelphia VIP partnered with city government, legal aid, and neighborhood associations to expand homeownership and estate planning legal services, serving as a key leader in the Neighborhood Preservation Initiative;
Therefore, by virtue of this Citation, the Council of the City of Philadelphia does hereby honor and recognize the staff, board, and volunteers of Philadelphia VIP for their legacy of expanding access to justice for Philadelphians whose legal issues pose barriers to homeownership. We in this Council extend the sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body.
