Volunteer of the Month: Greg Hyde

Greg Hyde is October’s VIP Volunteer of the Month. Greg is a family law attorney who brings over a decade of experience into the courtroom for his VIP custody clients. His levelheaded approach to these matters helps him guide parents and children alike through proceedings where emotions run high.

Greg discovered his passion for family law as a brand-new lawyer in New York City. Public service has been at the heart of his practice since the beginning; the New York State Bar Association recognized his pro bono work in 2015. When he relocated to Philly and opened his own law office here, his search for meaningful volunteer work led him to Philadelphia VIP.

Family law is often seen as emotionally charged, but Greg keeps his practice grounded in empathy and pragmatism. “At the end of the day, my goal is to set up families for success,” he says. “I keep it simple. I sit down with my client and go through the custody factors. If something is not in the child’s best interest, it is not worth pursuing in court.”

Greg’s commitment to his clients is evident in the success stories he shares. One recent client only saw his daughter for six hours a week. Thanks to Greg’s advocacy, the client now enjoys much more time with her, including overnights and holidays.

“In my experience, people really would rather not ask for free assistance,” Greg says. “Sometimes people are nervous or they’ve heard horror stories about free attorneys who are not committed or knowledgeable. But they ask for help because they really need it. Once I guide my clients through the process, I can feel them relax, knowing they have someone in their corner.”
